Deadheads writer/director duo, the Pierce brothers return!
The Pierce Brothers (Brett & Drew Pierce) of FroBro Films are proud to announce that “SMUSH!” a short comedy/horror film starring Markus Taylor (Deadheads), Travis Betz (Lo, The Dead Inside), Greg Dow (Deadheads), and new-comer, 7 year old Georgia Rose Matlack (Horror House) will get its world premiere screening at the 13th prestigious FILM4 FrightFest on Saturday August 25th, before the premiere of OUTPOST 2: Black Sun.
After the runaway success of zombie comedy, Deadheads – which followed the zombie feature on a barrage of cross-continent festivals in 2011, worldwide distribution in 2012, awards, and more –The Pierce Brothers are back again to world premiere their new, comedy/horror short film, “Smush!” exclusively at FILM4 FrightFest.
Co-Director of FILM4 FrightFest Paul McEvoy, had this to say about screening the short, “They’re back! Joining us again for our 2012 Edition of FILM4 FrightFest the super-talented Pierce Brothers, creators of our 2011 FF selection Deadheads have delivered us a fresh slice from their zombie universe with SMUSH!” He continues, “Gory, fun and beautifully done we are delighted to be World Premiering and welcoming back to the Fright Fold our friends from the US with their new short film,” Says Paul McEvoy , Co-Director FILM4 FrightFest.
“Smush! – a Deadheads Short” is the tale of a little girl left home alone amid a zombie outbreak, who makes unlikely friends with a flesh-starved intruder.
“We were homesick for Deadheads. We missed the crew, the cast, and the characters so we got the old team together, went out in the woods, and got the cops called on us for old times sake. There’s nothing more fun than making movies,” says Brett Pierce, one half of the writer/director brother duo.
Drew Pierce, explains the creative choice behind the short; “We always wanted to spin more Deadheads’ stories about Cheese. His character brings a great simplicity to storytelling and we’re excited to put the focus on him. Cheese was the obvious choice to center the short around. He’s a big lovable zombie that can smash you to a pulp when he gets angry, what’s not to like?”
“Smush!” was funded largely in part by Deadheads fans online via indie funding sites, as well as loyal zombie enthusiasts.
Brett Pierce explains, “We were stunned by the outpouring of DeadHeads support and zombie love. We are so lucky and thankful to have loyal fans that love horror and comedy the way we did growing up on films like Evil Dead. This short is dedicated to our rabid Deadheads fans.”
The Pierce Brothers have been hard at work since making their feature film debut with zombie/comedy Deadheads in 2011. The FroBros have two upcoming features on the docket for 2013/2014. They have been writing the Fantasy Adventure/Comedy Trilogy, “Dorks & Dice” described as Lord of The Rings meets The Goonies. Prior to that though, expect to see The Pierce Brothers introduce a new Dark Horror Adventure called “All Hallows.” Brett & Drew Pierce are now in development on “All Hallows” – promising to reinvent everything you think you know about witches and Halloween – and take you on a unique tale of dark adventure horror. Till then, zombies and horror abound with the delightfully delicious “Smush! – a Deadheads short”.
“Smush!” is written and directed by the Pierce Brothers, the same team behind DeadHeads, and was produced for premiere at Film4FrightFest.
“We love FILM4 FrightFest. It’s our type of film fest. Great crowds, dedicated fans, and put on by people who truly love good horror movies,” says Brett Pierce, writer/director. He continues, “We made the short for FrightFest because we couldn’t stand the thought of not going!”
